I graduated from the University of Victoria Faculty of Law in 1978. I articled at
Stevenson Doell and Company and practiced there until I established my own firm with
Deborah Acheson, Q.C. and Gwen Brodsky in 1983.
In 1985, we merged with Trudi Brown, Q.C. and Judith Kay and we have practiced
together in one permutation or another ever since.
I practice primarily in the area of Family Law and qualified as a Family Law
Mediator in 1985. In 2009, I limited my practice to Mediation, Voice of the
Child interviews, and Parent Coordinating matters in order to continue to
assist families.
I was awarded a Queen’s Counsel designation in 1996. Throughout my career I
have contributed to numerous Canadian Legal Education publications and panels
in the area of Family Law.
I have taught family law in the Professional Legal
Training Program run by the Law Society of British Columbia for aspiring lawyers
and have also lectured in Family Law in Psychology courses given at the
University of Victoria.
I have been actively involved in the Victoria Bar Association and served
as President in 1995. I have also been a director of many community
organizations and in 2001, completed a six year appointment to the British Columbia Racing Commission which is responsible for regulating
Horse Racing in British Columbia. I am currently on the Executive of
the Victoria Collaborative Law Group.
